Top notes
Top notes create the first impression. Citrus, light fruits, herbs and fresh materials are common because they evaporate relatively quickly.
Heart notes
The heart emerges after the opening settles and often defines the perfume’s main character. Florals, spices, aromatic notes and fruits can all sit here.
Base notes
Base notes support the dry-down and usually last the longest. Woods, amber, musk, resins, vanilla and oud are common examples.
Why the note list is only a guide
A list of notes does not tell you exact proportions or how the materials interact. Use it to understand direction, then combine it with fragrance family, concentration, reviews and your own preferences.
